Happiness is a short-term emotional state. Of course it does make state, because scientists have established that happiness is not just something spiritual, but also quite material. The experience of joy, of great happiness, perhaps as a result of the release into the blood of special substances - the so-called happiness hormones: endorphins and they are responsible for a short-lived state of euphoria. In addition, life filled with hardships and privations throughout history, brought more grief and fear than joy and fun. Hence the tendency of people to succumb to depressed thoughts and depression, and joy quickly passes. I`d like to add some new remarks. Happiness is not the events that take place with us, it is our perception of ourselves and the world around us. Modern psychologists believe that fortunately we have two ways: one is connected with the events of the external world, the second with the inner self-perception. When we build a house, we buy a car, we travel, we make a career, we achieve success, we go the first way. Realizing all of the above, we experience happiness, but it does not last long. After a while, the achievements become familiar, and we need a new portion of pleasure. So you can spend all your life in the race for happiness, then experiencing it, then cooling down again, and finally understand that things are not capable of bringing true happiness. The second way helps to find happiness in your soul. This is a very deep and complex experience, which is associated with achieving inner peace and harmony. This inner state gives a feeling of quiet joy from simple things, from every day, from the fact that we exist. So, true happiness is the balance of the first and second, the balance between the external and internal world, a successful life and the achievement of inner harmony. And this is the joy that lives in our heart. But if we try to look at the problem from another point of view? At all times people have tried to find out what happiness is. In translation from the ancient Greek "happiness" is the fate of a man protected by the gods. People believed: if a person is guarded by the gods, then he will necessarily be happy. And how is happiness treated today? In most textbooks on psychology, happiness is represented as a person's psychological state, during which he feels satisfaction with his life. The most interesting thing is that a modern person never feels completely happy. Emotion, which he experiences almost always is fear. Fear that he can never be happy. And this fear makes him seek this happiness. In conclusion, I would like to say that as many people, so many options for happiness. For one, it is material prosperity, confidence in the future, for another it is a family, children, for the third it is an opportunity to engage in creativity, to embody your talents and abilities, for the fourth it is inner peace. I can only say one thing, if you want to be happy be it.
I see why you feel this way. It seems that happiness is associated with many trifling and pleasant moments that occur daily. You may feel happy when the weather is nice outside or when you buy a new thing. During one day our emotional state can dramatically change several times. Now you feel completely despondent then genuinely happy.
Basically, it’s a good idea, but are you really happy eating a tasty meal? Or is it just a feeling of content? When it rains, does it make you feel depressed? Our happiness does not concern such inconsiderable trifles of our life. They can affect our emotions marginally, but they are unlikely to change our state of mind. Often we confuse pleasure from something with real happiness. So we should avoid this misunderstanding.
What if we try another approach? Let us treat happiness as a stable psychoemotional state. You cannot cease being a happy person if your cup has just broken. Many aspects form happiness: your private life, your health, your career or education and so on. We cannot change these things immediately, so we cannot stop feeling happy at once.
It does make sense, that happiness is a short-term emotional state, as we are concerned that it lies in different small things like good weather, receiving presents, sharing somebody’s luck and etc. Each of us can say how many times a day we feel this change of mood from high to low and how long does the “happy” state last. Basically, it’s a good idea; still there are some controversial aspects: happiness is not feeling good all the time, but life is also not about feeling usually low with sort-term good emotional states. According to a study, emotional pain lasts for 12 minutes, anything longer than that is considered to be self-inflicted. And it seems reasonable enough for me, because even different disappointments that happen in the beginning of one day seem to be less important at the end of that day. And how about trying another approach? For example, let’s treat our usual emotional state as stable or normal, than all of small things that somehow affect us will be considered as “the ones that make us happy” or “the ones that make us sad”. That’s why we sometimes feel extra-happy and sometimes - extra-low. Life is about the change of our emotional state, and that is the one truth that we can’t deny.
Happiness is a short-term emotional state. It does make sense because a lot of people do not understand what happiness is and they did not even try to understand this issue properly. I consider that happiness is a condition which a person experiences here and now. It’s the state of the soul when a person is overflowed with joy, delight and other positive feelings. Basically it’s a good idea but the scientists argue that there are several kinds of sources of joy. Firstly, unworthy sources of joy which we do not even take into account: spy on the cheek and rejoice; steal something so that no one will notice; weave the intrigue; do dirty trick masterfully and etc. This is not pure joy but we must recognize that there are people who are happy when they do bad things. Secondly, short-term sources of joy : birthday and new year (holiday), victory at competitions, getting a premium or salary, buying a car, etc. Here a person can experience the state of happiness, but it lasts, as a rule, for a short time, and all that remains for a person is to live on, strive for something and do something. Thirdly, long-term external sources of joy : a favorite job, when a person experiences joy and pleasure from it, relationships with loved ones (family, friends), playing sports and other spheres of life, where a person spends her basic time. To be happy, you need everything that you do, where you spend your time, give you joy, give a burst of energy and strength. And why do we need work and relationships that make a person suffer and suck out all life juices from it. In other words - kill him. Fourthly, long-term internal sources of joy, some of which can become eternal for a person 1. Respect for yourself (inner dignity, positive attitude towards yourself), if it does not exist, if the person does not love himself, he will never be happy. 2. Energy sources of power are what a person can experience in meditation, when energy is awakened in him, in creativity, when he creates, etc. 3. Feelings are the most powerful source of joy for those who have an open heart. A sense of respect, gratitude, friendship, devotion and love can give a person a state of great happiness. Of course, somebody might not share my point of view and this is normal. The duration of our happiness depends on the circumstances.
Happiness is a short-term emotional state. I share your concern here. Feelings of happiness tend to fade away after some time, even in case the object of happiness or its token is still present every day. There is a theory that says that after three months these feelings have gone. Or rather the feelings of happiness have returned to the original level before the event that raised it took place. Besides, ha Besides, happiness being a byproduct at the result of achieving the main aim, try and to have a realistic and worthy goal to strive for and work at it. Enjoy the process. There you will find the touch of real happiness overflowing your feelings often making you realize that 'happiness is a journey and not the destination' and can lasts forever. How about this? Psychologists thought that happiness (subjective well-being) is largely disconnected from life circumstances and people adjust to major life events, positive and negative; thus happiness is quite constant throughout our life, even if it is occasionally perturbed. This means that winning the lottery won't make you happier in the long run and after a divorce or a major illness, when your life is thrown into upheaval for a certain period of time, your well-being level will come back to the initial levels.
You are sure that happiness is a short-term emotional state. I appreciate how you feel about that. Of course, a person couldn`t be always happy only because blessedness can also be an annoying emotional state. People begin to value everything good what happen to them only when something bad had happened to them before. Everything is relative and it really does make sense. On the other hand, I`m still doubtful as to your point of view. This question can be challengeable. It`s very difficult to be happy and not everyone is lucky to experience happiness. And when person finds heartsease and freedom, he feels that he is really happy and this feeling is to last forever. And is it possible to feel oneself unhappy if you carry this feeling round all your life? What if we try to look at this problem from point of view of the happy person?
Have you ever wondered what is happines for you? All people describe this state in different ways. For some people happiness - is a material well-being, for others it is popularity and celebrirty for thirdly - it is the health of their family members.
Sometimes we confuse real happiness with short-term joy. On the other hand there is a possibility that small pleasures make the happiness in whole. Such trifles as a gethering in a cafe with a friend, buying new things, arranging the house , etc. But, what if we try another approach? Let`s look at the concept of happiness from the scientific side. Happiness is a fuzzy concept. In philosophy and (western) religion happiness can be defined in terms of living a good life, or flouriching rather than simply as an emotion.
I appreciate how you feel about the idea that happiness is a short-term emotional state. People feel happiness when they drink a tasty cocktail, lay on the sea-beach and kiss for the first time. But when these moments are over people return to their ordinary life and don’t feel something special. On the other hand, I’m still doubtful as to happiness can’t be constant state. How about people who have found their partner in life and really love him? They build family and care of each other. They think every day: “I’m not alone and he (or she) waits for me at home”. Isn’t it a real happiness? Or if some people don’t want to have family they can ern enough money to live for their pleasure and do every day what they want. They also can feel happy. Not for a moment but all time. Though, what if we try to look at the problem from another point of view? All of us have good and bad days in our life. A lot of problems can make us sad and we at that moment don’t feel any good at all. So, our state depends on circumstances in which we are.
Happiness is a short-term emotional state. I share your concerns about the fact that happiness doesn’t last long, but that it is quite a short-term emotional state. As many people say, feelings of happiness tend to disappear after not so long time of some pleasant action or situation. It might seem that people can’t be always happy, they simply forget the first good action after being happened the second pleasant situation. But on the other hand, I’m still doubtful as to your opinion. There are people who always smile, laugh, talk to everybody, enjoy their lives. Doesn’t it mean that they are really happy? We can’t dissemble every minute, don’t you think so? That’s why I can share an opinion that not every man is happy but if he or she feels so then they are considered to be fully happy. But what if we try another approach? We should understand that life is not a simple thing, everybody has fortune and not so good days. We should live and do what we like remembering that necessarily a good day goes after a bad one.
I share your concerns about the idea that happiness is a short-term emotional state. Everyone wants to be happy, but our life is full of difficulties. Today you have enough money to buy an island and you are happy. Soon you know about your serious disease, you are afraid, you want to be healthy. But some month later you find the love of your life and you are happy again.
But on the other hand, I’m still doubtful as to the opinion that you couldn’t always be happy. I think that happiness is a state of mind. Try to find something good in every day of your life: remember any happy event for a long time, drink a couple of tea with your mother instead of thinking about your problems, read a fascinating book. As Syrus said “No man is happy who does not think himself so”. So, people who enjoy their life despite all the difficulties can be always happy.
What if we try another approach? Most people have to work very hard for a very long time to be happy, but I think that we should not run or search for happiness because it is already within everyone.
I do respect the point of view of those people who consider happiness to be a short-period emotional state. I see why they feel this way. In many cases of becomming a success, experiensing joy or euphoria, one can easily find himself being satisfied for a rather short period of time. Moreover, on a grander scale, even being fallen in love with their soulmates people mostly exist in a state of delight and happiness for a couple of months. As a rule, longer periods of dating reveal the true nature of each from the couple. On the other hand, I'm still doubtful, as to say that happiness lies only in short periods of time. We cannot deny tha fact, that each person may easily turn they life upside-down and adopt optimistic life approach. One can easily experiense cheerful emitions simply producing them from friendly chats with their friends and families, refreshing house arrangment, adopting pets or cooking delicious meals to taste with someone. Happiness lies in small pieces which surround us every single day. What if we try to look at the problem from another point of view? Basically, everyone has his own concept of true everlasting happiness and can extend these bright moments, because it remains within his own powers.
